Fort Dodge Girls Soccer
Thank you all for a great year.  Despite not going as far as we'd like, we definately showed some great improvements and I can't thank you all enough for your efforts through the year.  Brian and I are very proud of the TEAM you have become!!

We will have our Team Banquet on Wednesday, June 8th at the FDSH cafeteria due to possible poor weather.  If possible could we have the parents provide the following:

Seniors/Juniors bring side dishes or main.  Soph and Fresh can bring salads or desserts.  Last thing us coaches need is 38 different desserts to eat!!
2011 Game Reports

SC North - Regional - 2-3 OT Loss
Sometimes the better team doesn't win.  Sadly, that came true tonight.  You have all came a long way and need to look to the future to use this year as your starting block now.  Kari Becker got us rolling from Chelsie Crouse's throw in before giving up a goal just 4 minutes later.  We then took the lead for the second time as Francis Lee found some space in the box before hitting it home after Becker passed it in to her.  Sadly, we gave up a contentious free kick and SC North tied it directly from there.  SC North then scored in the 6th minute of overtime to end the contest.  Despite the loss, we need to hold our heads up high.  We played well and gave them one heck of a game.

Dowling Catholic - 2-4 Loss
After a fantastic start by going 2-0 up in the first 7 mintes of the game, we quickly gave up our advantage and failed to make much more of an impact on a solid Dowling team.  We must find our confidence again and our belief that we can play against this caliber of team.  There is only one reason as to why we are ranked 12th in the state right now...we deserve it.  Keep your focus and finish harder than we started!  kari Becker scored in the 4th minute directly from a corner kick, and just 3 minutes later, Becker agains sent in a corner kick for Kristen Kremer to header home from close range.

DM Roosevelt - 2-1 Win
In a well fought and physical game, we once again showed we can go toe-to-toe with those teams and can grind out positive results.  It took a while to find the net but Francis Lee did well to hold off the defender and find the backpost after being put through by Kristen Kremer.  Erin O'Leary then settle nerves a little as she smacked a shot from 20 yards into the far corner after Francis Lee worked her way down the left and laid the ball off for O'Leary to fire home.  A great way to see off the seniors on senior night!

Carroll - 2-0 Win
In a game which we totally dominated from the beginning, the one question we left unanswered was why didn't we score more?  In total we shot 31 times, got 15 on target, but only scored twice.  In terms of productivity it wasn't an efficient display of shooting and finishing.  However, a wise coach once said that a win is a win, so we'll take it.  Kari Becker finally got the number on the board as she finished after Kristen Kremer sent her on her way.  Haleigh Dolder then came off the bench to score the second after Becker's shot was saved by the Carroll keeper.  All-in-all, it was a win, but we know we can play a lot better!!

#6 Nevada - 4-0 Win
We took on one of the good Iowa state teams and proved that we belong with the best.  Holding the majority of the game in our hands and putting all the pressure on them was a great testement to the heart and workrate you all put in to this game.  We pressured them hard up top and through the midfield and created a great number of chances, outshooting Nevada by 18-6.  Tara Jackson scored by following up on Kari Becker's shot coming off the post to take a 1-0 halftime score.  A great start to the 2nd half saw Abbie Crouse nail a great goal after becker set her up from the right.  A quick-fire two goal salvo then ended the contest as Rachel Evans smashed home a great left footed effort from outside the box before Chelsie Crouse found the bottom right corner after a pass from Jackson.  All-in-all, a very good night and result.

Marshalltown - 3-1 Win
What a great turn around.  Much better decision making and shot selection resulting in some good chances.  Kari Becker in good form after Monday's disappointment as she scored her first hat-trick for the team.  Abbie Crouse assisting on two of them and scoring from the PK spot.  Overall, a much improved attitude and focus for the full 80 minutes.  We hope you can all keep that going to move forward and reach new heights for the program.

SE Polk - 2-3 Shootout Loss
In a game where a number of chances were created for both sides two goals were scored for each team and it was left to the PK spot to determine a winner.  Sadly, SE Polk scored their's and their keeper made two good saves.  After going down 1-0 we showed a lot of heart to bounce back and get one back through Kari Becker's corner kick.  SEP then added another from a long range effort.  In a better 2nd half, Rachel Evans finally scored after Maggie Rowden's free kick allowed Tara Jackson to feed it into Evans for the score.  If we take anything away from this hard loss it is to learn from what we did wrong and not make similar mistakes.  Good organization and positioning and better finishing could have led to a different result.

#3 Waukee - 1-2 Loss
We went toe-to-toe with one of the better teams in the state tonight.  Unfortunately some decisions went against us and they scored a good goal.  However, the way we battled back and really pushed them in the second half is a great testement to your hard work and determination.  That all paid off as Rachel Evans found Francis Lee who played a nice ball in for Paige Savery.  Paige rode a tackle well and finished with a nice finish to make the last 10 minutes very interesting.  Remember, we are a team and everyone plays their part.  BELIEVE!!!

DSM East - 3-1 Win
A solid physical performance was needed to earn the victory in this one, and we won the majority of the battles and won the game through our hard work and creating the better chances on goal.  We showed great spirit to come from behind and win again.  Rachel Evans coolly slotting home a PK to equalize in the first half.  Then some good defensive play kept the ball mainly in the attacking half where Paige Savery scored from an Erin O'Leary assist before Kristen Kremer scored on a header from Kari Becker's corner kick.

Mason City - 2-1 Win
Good bounce back as we looked to play soccer.  Very pleased with how me managed and attempted to move the ball around.  Some new concepts have been thrown at you all and it'll take a little time to get it all clicking the way we want it to.  Good movement led to both goals with Kari Becker scoring the first from Rachel Evan's assist, and then Francis Lee finished well after some great midfield play from Abbie Crouse.

#6 Ankeny - 0-10 Loss
By all accounts the weather didn't help us at all, but we need to remain upbeat and look towards the next game.  Ankeny are just a very talented team with players who know the game and have a wealth of experience playing club and have received good coaching along the way.  Their ability to handle the ball well in this rain-soaked game was the main difference, along with some classy forward play in being able to turn defenders and shoot.  Our strength for the year will be on how we bounce back after these two defeats.  Do we feel sorry for ourselves and accept defeat, or do we work harder and focus on our goals for the season?  It is your choice!!

#1 WDM Valley - 0-4 Loss
#1 Valley won the match, but we equiped ourselves well against the top team in the State.  The 0-4 scoreline may have flattered them a little as some of the conceded goals were rather messy and with a little more organization at the back could have been prevented.  At times we played well and we are certainly beginning to compete against the larger teams in the State now.  Keep your heads up and look towards Ankeny.

Spencer - 1-0 Win
In a hard fought game, the Dodgers emerged with the win with the lone goal coming in the second half, scored by Freshman Madeline Westerhoff.  Paige Savory was credited with the assist.  Due to a combination of poor decisions and shot selections by Fort Dodge, along with an intense and unforgiving Spencer team the game was a lot closer than it could have been.  However, a win is a win and moves the Dodgers to 3-1 on the season.

#9 SC North - 2-1 OT Win
A fantastic come-from-behind overtime victory gave the Dodgers revenge on years of domination by the North Stars.  Despite going a goal down due to a controversial goal, the Dodgers showed a great deal of poise, confidence, and heart to overturn the deficit and defeat the #9 ranked SC North team in the first period of overtime.  Paige Savory equalized with 6 minutes left on the clock after Francis Lee found her open at the top of the 18.  Francis Lee then sent the Dodger faithful wild as she scored in the 5th minute of OT after a pass from Tara Jackson allowed Lee to move in on goal.

#14 Ames - 0-2 Loss
On a windy and cold evening the Little Cyclones outplayed the Dodgers for the majority of the game.  An undermanned Dodger squad were no match for Ames as they ran out 2-0 victors over the Dodgers.  The team showed some glimses of hope with good ball movement at times but ultimayely lost the midfield battle and gave up two goals which on other days may have been prevented.

Webster City - 3-0 Win
Playing in conditions more suited to Ice Hockey, the Dodgers used the wind to their advantage with a dominant 1st half display with goals from Paige Osterberg, Francis Lee, and Kristen Kremer were enough to see off the Wildcats.  Despite numerous chances falling to the Dodgers they were unable to capitalize more.  Assists on the goals came from Kari Becker (2) and Rachel Evans.
